Hobbs Snowdonia Jacket 2014 1I personally discovered Hobbs of London on my recent trip to Paris and London with my mother in April.

We were staying in Bloomsbury, at Hotel Russell, and one morning after breakfast at Fork, my mother declared she wanted to fit in a bit of clothes shopping that day. Just a block away, in The Brunswick, were a few shops near the Boots Pharmacy which was the target of our next stop.

A few shops down, I spotted Hobbs, and was reminded of some outerwear I had admired on a fellow DC commuter. I grabbed my mother’s arm, “Here, they will have nice blazers.”

Did they ever.

Both of us fell in love.  The fabrics were such high quality, and the cuts so very flattering. I walked out with more than mother’s blazer, a suit jacket and matching dress (the Snowdonia) and a beautiful kingfisher blue (Etoile) long pencil skirt and matching silk blouse, which
incidentally,  went well with the Snowdonia jacket. Bless the clearance rack.

My disappointment was with shoes. The wingtip Oxfords I desired weren’t available in my size at that shop, but I was able to be certain on the size. I hopefully inquired about shipping to the US. “Yes! All because we now have a New York City shop… we’re testing the American waters. No customs fees, either.”  Oh my.

I now have my Oxfords, along with a pair of foundation pink parent loafers, and they are just heavenly.
Walking shoes that look fabulous. YES!

And I’ve just ordered Duchess Kate’s springtime long wool/viscose Persephone trench coat in bottle green, and a black skirt suit combination that looks quite promising.

This is going to be a problem. I can tell.

When, oh when, are you opening a shop in DC, Hobbs?

Sadly, not much of it is there. I’ll keep my hopes up that the DC area Bloomingdales expand their offerings.
